FRINGE ARTS
in association with V.C. Sevale cycling club present
Sir
Edward Elgar's Bicycle Challenge
How
Fast Can You Cycle Up Church St?
Sun 12th
June 2011
Venue:
Church
St, Great Malvern
Malvern Fringe will be holding the Sir Edward Elgar Up Hill Bicycle Challenge on Sunday 12th June.
This year they are also inviting people to run up Church Street if they wish, an opportunity not
usually
afforded
to the sporty pedestrian in Great Malvern .
The road will be closed from 9am until
about 4pm
and the racing will
be spread out from around 10am until 3.30pm depending on how many
competitors
turn up and importantly how
many times they feel they can drag their bikes up the road.
Last year several riders had 5 or 6 attempts at beating the current 17 seconds record set 2 years ago by a rider from Tenbury Wells.
The event is open to all abilities so dust off the old shopping bike and get training.
Riders from local clubs will be battling it out as usual providing an impressive display
of hill climbing,
but the history of the event has thrown up some great rides from local bmx riders just giving it a go.
Local club V.C. Sevale will provide time keeping and advice, St Johns Ambulance will be on hand to resuscitate any fallers.
If anyone would like to volunteer to help marshal the event they would be most welcome.
